Cool Gadgets

8/29/08

I added three cool gadgets to the sidebar today - one for me, one for Kaylee, and one for Shawn...see if you can guess whos is whos!

An Aaron update - I took him out for the first time today in the jogger stroller and got 22 free jogging minutes with no crying! I'm so excited - I felt like a new woman when I got done, as it's been several days now where I haven't been able to get out and exercise. SO GLAD he likes the jogger stroller! Thanks mom for helping me get it this summer! :)

School Days Are Here!

8/28/08

Well, I'm a few days late, but better late than never, right?! Kaylee had a great first day of school on Monday. She is in Mrs. Baker's class in the first grade at Robert Wilson Elementary School. She loves her new class and yesterday she was "Star of the Day". The kids asked her questions about what she likes and then drew pictures and wrote sentences about her which were then compiled into a Star of the Day book she got to keep.

A few notes about the pictures - the ones in the yard are from her first day. The middle one in the first row is from Tuesday. The middle row has an interesting story to go along with them. Shawn did a craft project with Kaylee last week - they made a pinata. Well after the second layer of newspaper went around the balloon we left it out in the backyard to dry - hanging quite high on a higher to keep it away from Sparky. The dog, turns out, has supernatural powers and was able to get to it anyway. So daddy had a note from a little girl in his pocket the next day that read something like, "Plese remeber to pick up a pinata after wrok today. Love, Kaylee" Well, how could he resist?! He got a High School Musical pinata and Kaylee invited a friend over to pull the strings with her. (I guess this is the new politically correct version of the pinata - I still like the ones better where you get to whack them).

As for me, I have positively resigned myself to being home for the next couple of months - and I mean home, home! My little guy does not do well with the car seat, stroller, or pretty much anything except for the swing and rocker for longer than a half hour. So my house will be clean, there will be lots of home-cooked meals (I just made some banana bread this morning that turned out fabulous - new recipe!) hopefully some family history work done, and practicing of course. I also want to use this time to get more deeply into the scriptures. I have had a really good institute experience here in Corpus last year and it opened my eyes to the scriptures as I have never seen them before. So, there are lots of things to keep me busy. :) Oh, and did I mention a little guy who loves to give smiles??!!! Hope everyone has a good day.

My 2 Month Old Chunky Monkey!

8/18/08

Today was Aaron's 2 month well visit. He is 13 lbs. 2 oz. and is in the 90th percentile with his weight. He is 24.25 inches tall, also in the 90th percentile. The shots, of course, are no fun, but as long as there is a boob readily available immediately after, life is good again. :) I am grateful to have such a healthy little guy!

Aaron's nicknames:

Little Guy
Little Buppy
Chunky Monkey
Little Man

On another topic, the women's all-around was AWESOME! I'm so glad Nastia pulled through with the gold and Shawn the silver. What amazed me most about this final compared to previous Olympics is the lack of falls/bad mistakes. The girls were very close to perfect - at least the ones NBC decided to show. I loved Nastia's reaction when she was receiving her medal - you could tell it meant so much to her and she showed so much emotion on her face.

Poor Alicia got dumped on again in the vault final when she finished fourth after a fall by the third place finisher. Alicia had two hops, and the bronze medalist did have a higher start value, but still, I thought the bronze should have gone to her. Then I learned online that Nastia got silver on uneven bars - drives me nuts that I find that out before watching the final tonight, but oh well. I hope Shawn gets the gold on beam tonight - that would be the perfect ending for her. Then we have another 4 year wait - it's been so fun to watch.

The Night of All Nights!

8/14/08

OK, so if you know me very well, you know that this is the night I get extremely excited about every 4 years...the women's all-around Olympic gymnastics final! After a bummer of a team final Tuesday night, I am really hoping the USA can come out on top tonight. Gold and silver would be great! Go Shawn and Nastia! I'm hoping that Nastia wins, just because everyone is expecting Shawn to, and I always vote for the underdog. I would be happy with either one taking home the gold though.

Four years ago, Kaylee was 2 years old, and I got so excited (as I do every 4 years) for the event that I made special treats and let her stay up late and watch with me because Shawn wasn't home and I didn't want to watch it myself. Of course she had no clue what was going on, but she thought the late bedtime was great! Well, we have turned this into a family tradition. This time she understands and is so excited to watch with Shawn and I tonight. We are making Chocolate Scotcheroos and butterscotch covered Granny Smith apples with sprinkles! Oh, and popcorn of course. :) Can't wait! Go USA!

This one's for you Granny J...

8/8/08

The song in this video has been sung to new babies in our family for at least 4 generations now...good job Kaylee carrying on this precious tradition. This was taken in the hospital the day after Aaron was born - 6/17/08.

YAY! I have finally started a blog...

8/4/08

Happy Day! I have been wanting to do one of these for a while, and now that my in-laws are in town to hold Aaron I have a few minutes to start!

Well, Aaron was blessed yesterday at church - it was a nice day. He made his presence known and cried through the whole thing. :) Shawn's parents were able to be here and share the day with us - it is nice to have them visiting.

Aaron is 8 weeks old today - can you believe it? It's weird how it works - when I think of 8 weeks old I think he should be 2 months, but he's not - his 2 month birthday is not until August 16th. So, whatever - he has been in the world for 8 weeks, starting today. :)
